5 Tips to Increase Your Local Business Sales through Your Site

It’s rare that I recommend a site that most local business can benefit from simply because it’s hard to find something that fits everyone’s needs. However, the site that I want to talk about is a mobile site for your business.

.

The reason is because most people constantly have their phone with them, whether it’s for talking, surfing the internet, or texting. Ninety-seven percent of U.S. consumers look online for local products and services, according to Google.

.

If one of your customers or potential customer wants to contact your business and they’re not by a computer – they will go to your site using their phone. For example, let’s say somebody wanted to look up the address or phone number of your business, or want to call for a reservation or an appointment…

if your site is not configured for fast loading on their phones, then it’d take a long time for them to access the information to contact you. By then, they will have already moved on to contacting your competitor if your mobile site isn’t fast at loading or easy to navigate or visually appealing. This means you’ll be losing that sale, reservation, appointment, etc. Two-thirds of mobile Web users are unlikely to return to a site where they had trouble, according to a study by the technology services company Compuware. Even more shocking, 40 percent of mobile Web users said they would visit a competitor’s site instead.

.

Furthermore, let’s say they are with their friends. If their friends sees that your business’ website is slow at loading, hard to navigate, or is poor looking – this will cause a negative first impression of your business. And what could be worse is that you not only lose that potential customer, you also lose their friends who were with them at the time…that’s double the loss!

Now based on this chart – more than half the people from ages 18 – 45 are mobile users and even 44% of people from ages 45- 54 use mobile. Question is – what are you doing to reach out to those majority of your customers.

If you’re not doing anything yet, here’s tips to watch for when considering building your mobile site:

1. Focus on providing the basic information to contact your business – aka address, email and phone number because that’s most often why people are searching for you in the first place.

.

2. Keep the core content the same but make sure your content’s concise! When you have too much information on your mobile site – this can be problematic since it’ll make your site slower to load (which according to Google can be a big factor as many people will simply leave after 3 seconds of your site not loading) AND be hard for the visitor to find the information if they have to scroll and click through a lot of information

.

3. Brainstorm for the biggest businesses in your field – then take a look at their site on your smartphone to see how they set it up for optimizing your visitor experience – chances are, the biggest companies in your field has already implemented mobile sites so why re-invent the wheel? (See pizza example below)

.

4. Ensure easy navigation – one of the things that people complain most often about mobile sites (and also websites) is the difficulty in navigating. This is even more complicated on a smartphone since space is limited and your visitor really doesn’t enjoy scrolling, zooming, etc. with their fingers all that much. So make it as easy for them to visit the pages that they’re looking for with easy touching of the screens for navigation. (see domino’s pizza above)

.

5. Avoid flash animation and pop-ups – Flash animation’s super slow to load and can result in the visitor quickly leaving your site from the long time for the wait. Pop-ups are a nightmare for the mobile sites since the smartphone’s usually not big enough to fully do justice to your pop-up ad and it can also be annoying to the visitor.

.

To really control your visitor’s experience – start by thinking about how your mobile site should be laid out. If you’re open to it – we can provide a Free Consultation to you so that YOU CAN CONTROL YOUR MOBILE SITE PRESENCE you don’t have to be tech-savvy at all and this is technology to save you money, but if you like to spend money then at least do it in style.
